THIS DEMOCRACY!
Tinubu wanted Ambode passed the next governorship baton. But Fashola preferred otherwise. Hamzat was his candidate. It became survival of the richest at the primaries ahead of the 2015 elections. Tinubu, therefore, showed his political might and got Ambode hitch-free victory. Fashola took to fate and campaigned big for the anointed.
Jagaban seems cerebral at divide and rule. He is a skilled gamer in the Nigeria's brand of politics. He is brainy at eating his cake to his belly and having same to his pocket.
Bola Tinubu used Ambode to combat Fashola. But for Buhari's insistence, the man could have gone into political extinction. His relevance could have faded. Ambode got hypnotized by the transitory, ephemeral love. Little did he know that the law of Karma would soon take effect on him. What went around in 2014 is apparently coming around in 2018 - four years down the line.
The same Tinubu who had anointed Ambode to battle Fashola that time is now in a symbiotic accord with the latter to soil the former. And in spite of pleas from various quarters to quell his anger, Jagaban is hell bent on anointing Sanwoolu to truncate Ambode's bid for a second term.
With Fashola's Hamzat stepping aside for Tinubu's Sanwoolu, and with the rumoured news that the former would be made the latter's deputy, that's a strong indication that the father and his son had shilthed their swords and hatchets buried. The battle, therefore, is now Tinubu & Fashola versus Ambode. What goes around surely comes around.
But why is Ambode not wanted for a second term - the same way Fashola wasn't in 2010 ahead of the 2011 guber race? What does Tinubu want? What do the APC stalwarts want? How has the man wronged them? Is his rejection in the interest of the state? Is it because he hasn't done well for Lagosians or for them as individuals?
"Ambode knelt down before me and I prayed for him. I did all within my capacity to deliver my constituency to him. He got there and abandoned, not only me, but other party leaders," lamented an elderly friend who is a pastor-politician.
Ambode or Sanwoolu, I am interested in none. But my contention is the deceit with which politicians play their game, especially at the expense of the suffering masses. The above is a crystal clear indication that Mr Governor is not being deprived a second term to salvage the state from bad governance. The reason is: he has failed woefully in paying his political tithes (the commonwealth of all) to the leaders. And that's nothing but selfishness, avariciousness and rapacity!
What does Tinubu want again? Hasn't he milked the state enough? Is the quintillions he earns through Alpha Better on a monthly basis not enough? I am curiously on the lookout for the outcome of the EFCC's recent allegation on the consulting company. I hope it would not go under the carpet.
Nigerian politics is not fit for anyone guided by principle and/or driven by piety. You will definitely join them because you can never beat them. What is termed good today is considered bad tomorrow. That is politics.
Iyiola Omisore was called a murderer by political opponents. That was used as a veritable tool to campaign against him. Today, the then murderer is now the best political mortal in Osun. Such is the dirtiness, the filthiness, the preposterousness of the Nigeria's brand of politics
We all saw what became of the alfas who joined with the intention of changing the situation from bad to good. One is now the Oranmiyan of his state. Innaa lillaahi wa innaa illeihi raaji'uun.
